On Wednesday afternoon, BESCA watched with anticipation the online H&V News Awards 2020 as finalists in the HVAC Initiative of the Year category for its Ventilation Hygiene Elite (VHE) scheme. The scheme faced strong competition from a host of other initiatives from across the industry:

  • Heat Engineer Software
  • Gas App Uk, Gas App Uk's Boiler Wise
  • Toshiba, Toshiba DesignAIRS V2
  • Mitsubishi Electric Europe, City Multi R32 VRF air conditioning
  • BESCA, Vent Hygiene Elite Scheme
  • Daikin Airconditioning UK, Partner with Confidence
  • Lochinvar, Operation Heat Pumps
  • Triple Point Heat Networks Investment Management, The Heat Networks Investment Project

The eventual winner was the Mitsubishi Electric R32 VRF (variable refrigerant flow) air conditioning system. The team at BESCA watched the online awards remotely via a Microsoft Teams online party with some even dressing up for the occasion.

Although disappointed not to win, Duncan Sibbald, Head of Certification said, “We were delighted to be finalists and to have the importance of the scheme recognised at the awards. Congratulations to all the other finalists and of course to Mitsubishi Electric for coming out on top”

The VHE scheme is based on BESA’s long-established and industry recognised specification and guide to good practice TR19®. The scheme is developed by the industry, for the industry and is approved and administered by BESCA, who will audit firms’ work to help raise standards and ensure they are maintained.

It enables contractors to improve the service they offer clients by demonstrating the highest level of compliance and competence. Completed works receive a TR19® Certificate demonstrating conformity with industry standards and giving clients complete peace of mind.
